Our History

Reverend Robert L. McQueen founded The Burning Bush Missionary Baptist Church on July 23, 1993. Reverend McQueen, along with eight members and their children held Sunday services in his home. The prayer and bible study services were rotated among member's homes.

The members' at this time were: Mrs. Vera Baines, Mrs. Mary McCormick, Mrs. Mary Lee, Mrs. Ruth McLaughlin, Mr. Ronald Michaux, Mrs. Lisa Taylor, Mr. James Taylor, Mrs. Ora McQueen and Reverend Robert L. McQueen.

As God continued to bless, Reverend McQueen began his search for a place to worship. The Lord led him to 915 Ramsey Street. This building was a warehouse with only the entrance completed. Reverend McQueen leased the building on August 14, 1993, with the option to buy.

With the vision God gave Reverend McQueen for this site, we stepped out on faith. Initially, services were held in the one completed room, but as God gave the increase, we began renovations to the rest of the building. Members rolled up their sleeves along with other professional workers and turned the once warehouse into a beautiful place of worship. In October 1993, we were able to have services in the completed building..."To God Be the Glory."

On March 17, 1998, the Lord made provisions for the church to purchase the property. Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Deacon Ronald Bates and Deacon Michael Lindsey were the first deacons to be installed on May 24, 1998. Deacon James McQueen was installed in 2000. As we continued to be blessed, on October 8, 2006, Brother Donnell Bethea accepted the position of Junior Deacon.

In the Spring of 2007, we began renovations and upgrades; the church was extended and a baptismal pool was added. The summer brought new changes as well. Reverend Douglas Gilmore and Reverend Jamaal Dunham associate ministers.

In the Spring of 2008, the front of the church was extended with brick, stained glass windows installed, two crosses to the exterior of the church were added, floors were tiled and the bathrooms were renovated. Also, in 2008, Donnell Bethea was called into the ministry and served as associate pastor.

On July 1, 2013, Reverend Firman E. Matthews became pastor of Burning Bush Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Matthews started the male chorus and established the Burning Bush motto, "
A Church on Fire for Christ."

On March 8, 2020, our founder Reverend Robert L. McQueen resumed his position as pastor of the church.
